Guide d'entretien des chaussures : Astuces pour prolonger leur durée de vie

Maintaining safety footwear is essential for its durability, appearance and waterproofing. To preserve these features, it's important to keep them clean and free of debris and mud. Here are a few tips on how to keep them looking their best.

Cleaning

To begin with, remove the laces before cleaning. Next, use a soft, damp cloth to wipe away dirt and any traces of calcium or salt. If necessary, you can also use a soft bristle brush and rinse lightly with water. However, it is recommended not to use soap.

Don't forget to also clean the outer sole of your shoes to remove debris and preserve traction, thus avoiding premature deterioration.

Drying

Once you've finished cleaning, let your shoes air-dry. Be sure to follow the appropriate drying instructions. If your shoes get wet, remove the laces, removable insoles or felts and let them air-dry in a dry, ventilated place. Avoid placing them close to a heat source such as a radiator or stove, as this may deform them.

Special materials

For leather or microfiber shoes, there's no need to apply protective or waterproofing products, as these materials are already waterproof. However, it is important never to use a product containing silicone, as this could damage the protective layer of the leather and compromise the waterproofing and grip of the sole.

As for rubber shoes, simply store them in a dark environment, neither too dry nor too damp. No products need to be applied to maintain the rubber.

EVA is sensitive to heat. We therefore recommend avoiding exposure to direct heat, such as sunlight, radiators, hair dryers or clothes dryers. These artificial heat sources can lead to deformation of the EVA shoe. So be sure to store them in the right conditions to preserve their unique characteristics.

As for the felts present in some safety boots, you can wash them gently in the machine, using the delicate cycle, then air-dry them.

By following these care tips, you can extend the life of your safety footwear and ensure its proper functioning, while preserving its appearance and waterproofing. Taking good care of your safety footwear is essential to guarantee the safety and comfort of your feet throughout your professional activities.
